The LG G Flex 2 finally has a release date, at least in South Korea where the curvy smartphone is to ship on Jan. 30 for 800,000 South Korean Won (roughly $737). Theres no word on when the device will get a global launch, though it should follow relatively soon in the U.S.

Speaking at a launch event this week, LG took the opportunity to comment on recent rumors surrounding the phones Snapdragon 810 chip. A report from earlier this week claimed the new processor might be prone to overheating, adding that Samsung decided to use its own Exynos chip instead based on internal testing. However, that doesnt seem to be an issue for the G Flex 2.

I am very much aware of the various concerns in the market, LG mobile exec Woo Ram-chan told the press, but the chips performance is quite satisfactory. He added that the Snapdragon 810 actually generated less heat compared to devices with older processors, at least in the companys own tests.

Beyond its Qualcomm processor, the LG G Flex 2 sports a 5.5-inch curved OLED 1080p display, a 3000mAh battery, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage with microSD support, Android 5.0 KitKat, and comes in red or silver. It also features a self-healing back that clears away scratches even faster than last years model.

We got a chance to test out LGs latest phone earlier this month at CES and came away impressed. Hopefully it wont be too long before the G Flex 2 gets the global release it deserves.
